In class, we did a small quiz in which we were presented with two images and had to determine which was real and which was an AI generated image. Generally speaking, we were able to point out the AI image correctly more often than not, but we were definitely fooled at times.

I personally did more tests and found that I could identify AI images a majority of the time, but definitely not all the time nor without uncertainty. Some subjects that AI generates are easier to determine; animals in particular I find easy, because AI always generates animals to have larger eyes than they would normally. I feel that being able to detect AI is a very valuable skill and something that people should know about, perhaps with some AI tells being taught in class (irregular shadows and lighting, finer details being muddied, objects blending into other objects or not continuing as they logically would when they go in and out of view, etc.) but I think that the most important thing is that people should use critical thinking when considering images.
